Location Of Montréal-trudeau Airport

Montréal-Trudeau Airport is just a stone's throw away from downtown Montreal, located only 12 miles (20 kilometers) away. You can get to the airport easily by road or rail too - it's connected to Autoroute 520 via both Autoroute 40 heading northeast and Autoroute 20 southwest, which are both part of the Trans-Canada Highway. Public bus routes run every 15 minutes and it takes around 30 minutes to get between Montreal Central Station and the airport. Currently, YUL doesn't have its own rail station, but a rapid transit network is being built that will connect the airport to everywhere else on the island - it's set to be finished in 2020. Until then, you can take the free shuttle bus which runs between the airport and Dorval station every 30 minutes.

History Of Montréal-Trudeau Airport

Montréal-Trudeau Airport has a long and storied history. It got its start in the 1940s, when it became clear that the region's original airport couldn't keep up with rising travel demands. As Dorval Airport, it opened on September 1 1941 and within five years was handling more than 250,000 passengers annually. By the 1950s, it was welcoming over one million visitors and in 1960 it was renamed Montréal-Dorval International Airport. This came with a new $30 million terminal facility, making it not only the biggest airport in Canada but one of the biggest in the world. Since then, hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested in the airport to bring it up to the standard of other major North American airports. In 2004, in recognition of Pierre Elliott Trudeau's service as Prime Minister, it was re-named Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. Today, it is a bustling hub for travel both domestically and internationally.
