Oakland International Airport is conveniently located just 10 miles from the center of Oakland and 20 miles from downtown San Francisco. It sits on Bay Farm Island, close to Alameda and I-880. History Of Oakland International Airport

Oakland International Airport opened way back in 1927, with a runway that was the longest in the world at the time! It quickly became a hub of historic flights, including those by Charles Kingsford Smith and Amelia Earhart. By the end of 1927 commercial flights started taking off with Boeing Air Transport and TWA leading the charge. The 1950s saw a true Jet-Age terminal take off, with Western, American, TWA, United, Transocean and Pacific Southwest Airlines setting up routes. Then came airline deregulation in the 1970s, encouraging low-fare carriers to come to OAK. This was followed by a series of enhancement programs right through the 2000s.
