The airport, which originally went by the name 'Houston Intercontinental Airport', opened up in 1969 and all scheduled passenger airline services that had been operating out of William P. Hobby Airport were moved to the new IAH. To honor the 41st President of the United States, it was renamed George Bush Intercontinental Airport back in 1997.

Useful Tips

George Bush Airport Parking Spaces: How to Find the Perfect Spot

Take A Book

If you're flying out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport, be sure to bring something to keep yourself entertained while waiting in the customs and security lines. People have reported queues lasting up to 2.5 hours, so it's a good idea to bring a book or an iPod! That way you can make the wait less tedious.

Prepare Well For Security Checks

At IAH, there's not a lot of signage to tell you the exact protocol for getting through security. So it's best to be prepared while you're in line so that you don't have to rush when you get to the bag x-ray machine. Make sure you take your electronics out of your bag, remove your belt and shoes, empty your pockets, and be ready to answer any questions the security staff may have about your luggage. That way, you'll be all set for a smooth transition!

Take A Packed Lunch For Special Dietary Needs

If you're a vegan or have special dietary requirements while traveling through IAH, it's probably best to bring your own food. The restaurants there may not be able to cater to all of your needs, so it's better to come prepared with snacks or a packed lunch.

Make Your Suitcase Stand Out

At IAH, it can be hard to find your luggage since many flights are unloaded onto the same conveyor belt. Sometimes the bags might even end up at the wrong carousel! To make sure you can spot your bag easily, it's a good idea to personalize it with something like stickers or distinctive tags. That way, you can easily spot it from a distance.
